Review + Interview – Lenovo Legion Phone Duel – The Gaming Beast [ENGLISH]
Gaming
As I was saying, Lenovo Legion Phone Duel has a dedicated gaming interface, called Legion Realm, where we can also have quick access to Legion Assistant – an easily accessible drop-down menu. It runs in landscape mode and it turns the phone into a portable console – here we have access to games, but also to the most important settings, such as screen refresh rate, blocking notifications (messages, phone calls), volume, screen capture and so on.
The overall emphasis is on providing an optimal gaming experience, so we can take quick screenshots while playing, we can monitor the quality of the wireless connection, the chipset temperature, CPU and GPU clocks, framerate and screen refresh rate. We can also activate the Rampage mode, which pushes the chipset to the maximum, for optimal gaming performance.
Obviously, we have seen these functions, in one form or another, on the main competitors products, like ASUS or RedMagic. However, Lenovo is pushing the concept of gaming smartphone even further, offering two extremely interesting features, both of them available in Legion Assistant.
First of all, Back Recording – that moment when we did something epic in a game, but we weren’t recording the screen and we would like to save the last 15 seconds of the game as an HD or FHD clip. Well, all we have to do is to activate the back recording function from Legion Assistant, and simply press the back recording recording button just after the scene we want to capture, and the clip will be automatically saved in the Highlights folder.
Second, we have a Stream mode, which allows us to do something even more interesting, really highlighting the front camera positioned on the side of the phone. Because it’s unique placement, we can use the front camera while playing, similar to the web-cam on the computer during games – we can save clips or we can stream our content, with us in the frame. There is also an integrated background removal function, we can place the camera window anywhere on the screen, we even have some AR emojis, for those of you who are feeling playfull. Basically, Lenovo Legion Phone Duel is the only smartphone that gives us the opportunity to livestream during games using the front camera, which is quite impressive.
